The Sindh government is going to initiate a crackdown on private vehicles using official number plates, said the Sindh Senior minister for Information, Excise, Taxation and Transport Sharjeel Inam Memon while chairing a meeting of the excise and taxation department in Karachi.
Excise Secretary Muhammad Saleem Rajput and Excise DG Aurangzeb Panhwar participated in the meeting along with other key officers.
The meeting was told that the excise and taxation department had successfully collected 34 per cent of the annual tax revenue within just three months and 15 days. Memon issued directives for the excise department to increase tax targets and accelerate tax collection efforts.
It was also decided that the department would provide vehicle registration and transfer facilities at home for public convenience.
Memon announced that starting January 1, vehicle registration and transfer processes would become available online. The citizens would also be able to pay motor vehicle taxes online.
By eliminating cash transactions, the government aimed at enhancing convenience for the public and promoting greater transparency in the tax payment system, the meeting was told.
The minister stressed that the Sindh government was committed to providing the best public services.
He stated that the vehicles with official number plates should also be thoroughly checked, and action must be taken against those displaying official number plates on private vehicles. He stressed the need for more comprehensive measures regarding vehicle registration, tax payment and verification of number plates.
Memon said that the communication campaign for the online auction of premium and personalised number plates should be intensified to raise funds for the construction of houses for flood victims.
He stated that in order to ensure access for more participants in the online auction, efforts should be made to attract a larger audience. He maintained that the funds collected from the auction would be used to construct houses for flood victims.
