This letter refers to the news report ‘PM says parliament 'supreme' after passage of judicial reforms’ (October 21, 2024). One tends to completely agree with what the PM said. Parliament is composed of parliamentarians who are elected by the people through their vote and the true essence of a vote is incumbent upon conducting free and fair elections. Once we have achieved these standards, all would agree that parliament is in fact supreme. Until then, we need to work towards achieving high standards of fairness in the electoral process. Judicial reforms are always a positive step in any society provided they are being created, governed and implemented by a parliament that does not have any lingering doubts about its legitimacy.
