PESHAWAR: Criticising the government over the passage of the 26th Constitutional Amendment, Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur said on Tuesday the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) would give a call for protest if the government appointed its blue-eyed as the Chief Justice of Pakistan.
Talking to reporters on the premises of Peshawar High Court (PHC) after getting protective bail, Gandapur said workers from across the country would reach the federal capital at all costs. “We will not return until the nation is freed from the corrupt and incapable rulers,” Gandapur vowed.
He lambasted the government for the amendments made in the darkness, pledging that the PTI would not accept an attack on the independence of the judiciary. He also said that raising their voice and staging protests were their fundamental rights under the law of the land and that they would continue to do so until the most senior judge was appointed as the CJP. “For the first time in the country’s history, appointments in the judiciary are being made on personal pre ferences to secure favourable decisions,” he opined.
About the defection of PTI lawmakers, he said that his decision of not awarding a ticket to Bajaur’s MNA Mubarak Zeb proved correct, as he had proven himself to be a turncoat and a traitor. He accused Mubarak Zeb of betraying the people of Bajaur by selling his vote despite receiving development funds from him.
The CM said those who switched loyalties have been identified and the party was conducting inquiries and issuing show-cause notices to them after consultation with the party founder Imran Khan. “Those who stabbed Khan in the back will be held accountable. The present difficult time has shown who stood by them and who ran away,” he said.
Regarding the law and order in the province, the chief minister said that during Imran Khan’s government, there was peace across the country, including in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, but the law and order situation deteriorated under the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) government due to its flawed policies. He said that efforts were underway to bring law and order under control in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. He added that recruitment was being done in the police force and resources were being provided to the force.
