Donkey-cart owners protest hike in taxes

CHARSADDA: The donkey-cart owners on Tuesday staged a protest against the Tehsil Municipal Administration (TMA) for levying heavy taxes on them.The cart owners along with their donkeys gathered outside the press club and staged the protest to register their anger against the TMA the excessive taxes.

The protesters chanted slogans against the TMA and other concerned authorities for increasing the taxes. They also blocked the road outside the press club.The protesters said that not only their children, but their donkeys also go hungry as they cannot feed them properly due to inflation and joblessness.They accused the TMA staff of collecting three types of taxes from them daily.They said that each donkey cart was charged Rs140 per day in taxes. “We hardly earn Rs500 a day, so either we pay taxes or feed our children and donkeys,” they complained.
