Adiala jail visits banned indefinitely
However, officials have confirmed that the ban has been extended until further notice
RAWALPINDI: The Punjab government has extended the ban on meetings with prisoners at Adiala Jail indefinitely, citing ongoing security concerns.
The restriction was initially imposed from October 7 to October 18 in light of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit. A two-day extension was later granted, with the ban expected to end on Monday, October 21.
However, officials have confirmed that the ban has been extended until further notice. Sources indicate that the decision stems from continued security concerns in the region, affecting all prisoners, including political detainees.
The restriction prohibits visits by family members, legal representatives, and party leaders to prisoners at Adiala Jail. While no official end date has been given, the Punjab government is expected to review the security situation before lifting the ban. This indefinite extension has raised concern among the families of prisoners and political figures, who are calling for clarity on the security situation and the duration of the ban.
