SUKKUR: Gunmen snatched weapons, including 138 9mm pistols, 276 magazines and bullets from the officials of Jacobabad Police on the Indus Highway Shikarpur on Monday.

According to reports, Azizullah Qureshi, Investigation Officer of the Jacobabad Police and other cops were travelling to Jacobabad in a car along with seized weapons including 138, 9mm pistols and 276 magazines and bullets after verifying the seized weapons from Forensic Laboratory Larkana when they were intercepted by the armed men at Shikarpur Bypass and robbed of all the weapons.

Jacobabad SSP (retd) Captain Saddam Hussain Khaskheli took notice of the incident and suspended Sub Inspector Azizullah Qureshi and two other officials. The SSP said that according to the initial information, the investigation officer was in contact with the facilitators of the accused and after ordering the authorisation letter over the phone, he was returning to Jacobabad in the car of a facilitator. He further said the investigation from the officials was underway.

The Jacobabad SSP further said carrying weapons in a private vehicle instead of an official vehicle and without informing the superior officers shows the malice of the investigating officer.

He said that the negligent investigation officer, head muharar and naib muharar have been suspended and taken into custody and added that he had established a three-member committee consisting of PDSP and DSP City under the chairmanship of Deputy superintendant of Police Saddar, who will investigate the incident and submit a report within 24 hours.

He further said the investigation team has full mandate to investigate the incident from every aspect so that the facts can be determined. It should be noted that on October 2, the Saddar Police had raided a truck going from Punjab to Balochistan, seized weapons, arrested two inter-provincial smugglers and registered a case against them.
