The School Education and Literacy Department (SE&LD), Government of Sindh, conducted a meeting of the Science Technology, Engineering, Arts & Mathematics (STEAM) Unit in Karachi.

Chaired by Syed Sardar Ali Shah, minister for education & literacy and mines & mineral development, the meeting brought together high-ranking officials, including Secretary SE&LD Zahid Ali Abbasi, Secretary College Education Asif Ikram, Chairman Sindh Language Authority Dr Ishaque Samejo, and Chief Executive Advisor Curriculum Wing Dr Fouzia Khan.

During the meeting, Sardar Shah highlighted the critical role of STEAM education in shaping students’ futures across Sindh.

He stated, “STEAM education is not just about equipping our students with knowledge in science and technology; it’s about nurturing creativity, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills that will help them thrive in an increasingly competitive world.”

He praised the STEAM Unit’s efforts under the “Science in Sindh” initiative and shared his vision for expanding these activities to private schools, SEF-assisted schools, public and private colleges, and cadet colleges. “By expanding these programmes, we are ensuring that every child, regardless of socio-economic background, has the opportunity to engage in STEAM competitions, which will enhance their confidence, curiosity, and capacity to innovate,” the minister added.

In addition to the focus on science and technology, he emphasized the importance of integrating art, language, and pluralism into education. He said, “We must integrate the message of Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai into our STEAM programmes to preserve our rich cultural diversity and spread the message of tolerance and unity.”
