PESHAWAR: Adviser to Chief Minister on Information and Public Relations Barrister Mohammad Ali Saif on Monday said the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) would undo the 26th Constitutional Amendment after coming to power at the Centre.
In a statement, he said the amendment was pushed through the Parliament in haste and violated the sanctity of the legislature.“Grave crimes such as kidnapping and dishonouring the sanctity of the home were committed to passing the amendment,” he remarked.
He said the federal government made these changes in secrecy, which was akin to a coup against the judiciary.“The amendment was passed in the dead of night by attacking the Supreme Court and aiming to circumvent its rulings. The entire procedure reflects a treacherous blow to the Constitution,” he said.
The CM’s adviser said the hasty amendment was designed to avoid the implementation of the Supreme Court’s decisions. He believed the PTI’s struggle would gain momentum after the passage of the amendment.
Saif warned those who supported the amendment would face public wrath, adding that history would not forgive them.“Those who voted in favour the amendment will never win public support in the upcoming elections,” he added.
“Those who betrayed PTI founder Imran Khan will face condemnation from the nation, and history will never forgive them,” Saif remarked. Referring to the previous elections, the adviser highlighted the political downfall of those who defected from PTI.
