Breast cancer prevention, diagnosis, treatment discussed

LAHORE:The University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS) in collaboration with Pink Ribbon Organisation, King Edward Medical University Lahore, and Mayo Cancer Care Hospital Manawan Lahore, organised an awareness walk and a seminar on Breast Cancer with the theme of ‘Together we can defeat breast cancer’ here in City Campus.

Dean Faculty of Veterinary Science Prof Dr Aneela Zameer Durrani led the walk, while Chairman Department of Parasitology Prof Dr Kamran Ashraf, Dr Jaweria Ali Khan, students and faculty members participated.

Later in the seminar, speakers spoke about the introduction, awareness, prevention, management, diagnosis, and treatment of breast cancer. The objective of the seminar was to create awareness among the students, faculty members, and the general public, especially women, regarding diagnostic methods, treatment techniques, and patient management.

Researchers asked to document their work to get intellectual property rights Meanwhile, a seminar on ‘Intellectual property protection and stakeholders’ consultation on the adoption of WIPO treaty on intellectual property genetic resources and associated traditional knowledge’ was held at the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS) here on Monday.

The UVAS students, researchers, and faculty members attended the seminar which was presided over by the Chairman National Seed Development and Regulation Authority Prof Dr Asif Ali Khan while UVAS Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Muhammad Younus, Chairman Intellectual Property Organisation of Pakistan Farukh Amil, Assistant Controller of Patents (IPO) Ms Shakra Khurshid, and others were also present.

Speaking on the occasion, Prof Dr Asif Ali Khan said researchers should take ownership and document their research work to get intellectual property rights as, without documentation, ownership rights could not be achieved. He said it is necessary for ORIC to generate knowledge, develop technology, and integrate innovative work with students, and disseminate such knowledge for the upcoming generation.
