LAHORE:Authorities from the Punjab Health Care Commission have sealed some parts of the Janki Devi Jamiat Singh Maternity Hospital and its laboratory due to the hospital's failure to register with the commission.
Documents from the Punjab Health Care Commission confirmed the closure, which has resulted in the suspension of operation theatre services and lab testing. Emergency services, however, will remain operational. The PHC had previously issued a notice to the hospital regarding the necessity of registration. Despite operating for the last 10 years, neither the MS Dr Farah Hafeez, nor any other responsible personnel took steps to register the facility.
Following the closure under the PHC Act of 2010, the commission formally issued a notice to Dr Farah Hafeez, instructing her to complete the registration process. She also received a show-cause notice from the secretary of the Punjab Medical and Educational Infrastructure Fund (PMEIF) this October. In a conversation with The News, Dr Farah expressed confusion over the sealing of the hospital.
She stated that while she received a notice prohibiting major elective surgeries, maternity operations could continue. She plans to discuss the matter with the Secretary of ETPB. The News attempted to contact the secretary, but he did not respond to messages and calls as well.
