UAE investors show interest in Sindh’s energy sector

KARACHI: Sindh Energy Minister Syed Nasir Hussain Shah met with United Arab Emirates Consul General Bakhit Atiq Al Rumeeti at the Energy Department office on Monday.

During the meeting, they discussed potential investments in the energy sector and other matters of mutual interest. Minister Shah highlighted Sindh’s rich natural resources and its favourable environment for foreign investment in the energy sector.

Shah highlighted the potential of alternative energy sources in Sindh, citing the 55,000MW wind corridor, 500MW waste-to-energy, 100MW bagasse-based power generation, and 130MW of hydropower generation capacity. He also noted that Thar coal is currently generating 3000MW of electricity for the national grid.

Shah further stated that Sindh’s Thar coal reserves are significantly larger than the oil reserves of Saudi Arabia and Iran, emphasizing its potential for energy production.The UAE consul general expressed appreciation for the government’s initiatives in alternative energy. He assured the minister that he would inform UAE investors about investment opportunities in Sindh’s energy sector and encourage them to explore these possibilities.
