Police on Sunday arrested some members of the Baloch Yakjehti Committee as they reached the Karachi Press Club to stage a protest.
Police had already deployed a significant force at the press club in anticipation of protests by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf and Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP), but no demonstrations were held by these groups.
Meanwhile, members of the Baloch Yakjehti Committee attempted to enter the Red Zone from the Zainab Market signal but were denied entry by the police. However, some members, including women, successfully reached the Karachi Press Club where they staged a peaceful protest.
Police eventually disrupted the demonstration outside the Karachi Press Club and began making arrests. They also briefly detained women who were released a short distance away.
More than five protesters were taken into custody and moved to the police station. The protesters expressed their anger at the police, saying they were being maltreated.
It should be noted that in preparation for a potential protest in the Red Zone, police had deployed officers from various districts, including 13 station house officers (SHOs), one DSP, and 29 other personnel in District South.
