When middle class families get their electricity bills these days it can feel like getting a DC current shock, unnerving even the strongest among us. Iesco customers outside the Islamabad region were doubly shocked when they got their September bills as they expected the same relief that they got in August. This is what had been promised by Punjab CM Maryam Nawaz. In fact, not only were the September bills bloated, but they included new rate hikes that were not seen previously.
This appears to be a consequence of the last-minute U-turn on electricity relief due to IMF pressure. However, I thought this reversal would only apply to those Iesco customers from Islamabad. The Punjab CM is requested to launch a probe into this matter and ensure that some relief is given to all Punjab residents.
