KARACHI: The National Games 2025 are scheduled for January and February, but the funds for the event haven’t been released. The News has learnt that no concrete development has taken place regarding preparation for the 35th National Games.
It is worth mentioning that more than 7000 athletes are likely to take part in the Games. Informed sources said that accommodating more than 7000 athletes in more than 30 disciplines is an uphill task which requires meticulous planning and dedicated efforts.
Sources mentioned that Ramadan would be observed in March. Thus, February is the ideal time for the National Games. It would be better that funds for the National Games be released so that preparation for the games can be initiated, they said.
The organising committee of the National Games had announced that the National Games secretariat would be established at KMC’s sports complex at Kashmir Road, but it has not been established so far, sources said.
According to sources, the funds are likely to be released later this month by the Sindh government. When this scribe contacted the SOA and provincial sports department regarding the preparation of the National Games, they admitted that practical work for the Games had not started so far and the approval of funds was in the process. They expressed the hope that funds would be approved soon.
