PTM stages protests to seek implementation of jirga’s demands

PESHAWAR: The Pashtun Tahaffuz Movement (PTM) staged protests in several districts of the province to demand implementation of the Pashtun Qaumi Jirga’s demands.

In the provincial capital, the PTM activists gathered outside the Peshawar Press Club. They were holding banners and placards in support of their demands.In his speech, Mufti Munir Shakir said that Pashtuns had been deceived by various actors over the last 70 years. He claimed that political and religious leaders acted as agents of powerful elements and foreign influences.

He urged Pashtun youth not to be manipulated by religious forces for political purposes.Other speakers, including Fazal Amin, Fazal Hameed, Bilal Oragzai, and Malik Anwer, demanded the release of workers arrested during the Jirga in Khyber district. They also called for the removal of PTM leaders and workers’ names from Schedule IV.The protesters carried banners with slogans advocating peace for Pashtuns, an end to extortion in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and the resumption of trade with Afghanistan.
