IGP deputes Sukkur SSP to probe attack on ex-MPA

KARACHI: Police authorities will take every step to ensure fair probe into into the attack on former MPA and the chief of the Shar community, Sardar Shahryar Shar, it is learnt.

The attack occurred on October 14, 2024, in the riverine (kacha) area of the Ghotki district, resulting in the deaths of two individuals close associates of Sardar Shar, Ali Muhammad Shar, and a hardened criminal Umar Shar, and injuries to Jan Mohammad Bugti and Sohrab Shar.

On October 18, 2024, Sindh police chief Ghulam Nabi Memon appointed Sukkur SSP Amjad Ahmed Shaikh to lead the investigation.

Ghotki police have arrested a police official Shakoor Lakho who was posted at the time of the attack as SHO Shaheed Deen Muhammad Leghari Police Station in connection with the same attack, later his custody was handed over to Sukkur Police.

The FIR of the incident was lodged on October 16, 2024, by Mumtaz Ali Shar, brother of the deceased Ali Muhammad Shar, and charges were filed under multiple sections of the Pakistan Penal Code and the Anti-Terrorism Act (ATA) against 19 named and three unknown individuals, including SHO Lakho.
