LAHORE : Inspector General of Punjab Police, Dr. Usman Anwar, has announced a significant relaxation in the age limit for promotion exams under the P-Cadet Scheme, benefitting overage constables and head constables who missed out due to unforeseen circumstances, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic.

In a move aimed at facilitating career growth within the police force, the age limit for constables and head constables to appear in the Punjab Public Service Commission (PPSC) exams for the positions of Sub-Inspector and Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) has been increased from 35 to 40 years. This relaxation is expected to benefit more than 1,000 personnel, enabling them to qualify for the promotional exams.

A Punjab Police spokesperson highlighted that the decision follows numerous appeals made to IG Dr. Usman Anwar by constables who were unable to meet the previous age criteria due to disruptions caused by the pandemic. In response, Dr. Anwar forwarded a summary to the Cabinet Committee, which subsequently approved the one-time age relaxation for the upcoming PPSC exams.

“This decision is a major relief for those who became overage due to the pandemic and other factors,” said the spokesperson. “It will open doors for countless dedicated constables who have been waiting for this opportunity to advance in their careers.”

IG Punjab urged the affected officers to prepare for the competitive exams, which will be held soon, and assured that this step is part of ongoing efforts to uplift the police force.
