Passerby killed in crossfire

LAHORE : A passerby lost his life in Mozang after being caught in firing erupted over a family issue.

Police have arrested two suspects and recovered weapons from their possession. According to details, suspects Famir Ali and Qameer Ali opened indiscriminate fire on their neighbour, Fayyaz, over a family dispute.

Unfortunately, Hanif Tufail, an elderly passerby, was critically injured in the incident. He was rushed to hospital in where he succumbed to his injuries. Upon receiving the report, the police swiftly apprehended both suspects and seized two 30-bore pistols along with dozens of bullets. A case has been registered against the suspects under murder charges, and they have been handed over to the Investigation Wing for further inquiry.

Road accidents

At least 14 people died, whereas 1,437 were injured in 1,321 road accidents in all 37 districts of Punjab during the last 24 hours.

Out of these, 621 people with serious injuries were shifted to different hospitals, while 816 victims with minor injuries were treated at the incident site by Rescue medical teams. The majority (76%) involved motorbikes.

Furthermore, the analysis showed those 750 drivers, 67 underage drivers, 190 pedestrians, and 511 passengers were among the victims of road traffic crashes. The statistics show that 269 road accidents were reported in Lahore which affected 306 persons placing the Provincial Capital at top of the list followed by Faisalabad 87 in with 97 victims and at third Multan with 81 road accidents and 82 victims. The details further reveal that 1451 victims were affected by road traffic crashes including 1139 males & 312 females, while the age group of the victims shows that 265 were under 18 years of age, 736 were between 18 and 40 years and rest of the 450 victims were reported above 40 years of age. According to the data 1211 motorbikes, 75 rickshaws, 126 motorcars, 29 vans, 08 passenger buses, and 111 other types of auto vehicles and slow-moving carts were involved in aforesaid road traffic.
