ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Zardari has announced that a consensus had been reached in the special parliamentary committee regarding the proposed constitutional amendments.
In the joint parliamentary meeting of the PPP and PPP-Parliamentarians on Friday evening, Bilawal was elected as a parliamentary leader of the alliance of the PPP and PPP-Parliamentarians.
The name of Bilawal for the joint parliamentary leader was proposed by Aseefa Bhutto Zardari and seconded by all members.
While speaking in the parliamentary party meeting, the PPP chairman emphasised the party’s commitment to getting these amendments passed in Parliament, adding that one of the unfinished items from the Charter of Democracy would also be completed.
He mentioned that the PPP, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz, and Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUIF) had already reached a consensus on the draft of these amendments.
He said the legitimate demands and complaints of Maulana Fazlur Rehman were placed before the prime minister Thursday night and Shehbaz Sharif would follow through on the assurance he gave Thursday night. “If that happens we will be able to pass the constitutional amendment,” he said.
He highlighted that the attendance of PPP members in Parliament was better than that of any other party.
Bilawal expressed his gratitude to the members for being present in Islamabad for the session, noting their hard work in achieving agreement on the constitutional amendments.
He also addressed complaints raised by some parliamentarians, calling them unfortunate and strongly condemning them.
He noted that Syed Khursheed Shah had taken notice of the complaints and had brought them to the attention of the National Assembly Speaker. He further remarked on the historical collaboration between the PPP and JUIF since 1973 for the development of the Constitution. Bilawal clarified that all necessary paperwork had been completed to avoid confusion and instructed party members to vote in alignment with his position, stressing the importance of following the party line.
