Existing family pensioners exempted from 10-year limit

Ministry of Finance has sent an explanatory letter to all federal ministries, divisions and institutions

ISLAMABAD: The federal government has given exemption from 10-year limit to existing family pensioners.

According to a notification, limitation of family pension to 10 years will not apply to existing family pensioners. The Ministry of Finance has sent an explanatory letter to all the federal ministries, divisions and institutions.

The notification states new family pension rules will be applicable to family members becoming eligible on or after September 10, 2024. It will not apply to existing family pensioners. Eligible family members will get pension in case of death or ineligibility of the spouse.

For the remaining eligible family members, pension period is limited to 10 years. If the child of the deceased pensioner is disabled, he will get pension for life.

Eligible children will receive family pension for up to 10 years or until the child turns 21 years of age. Under the amendment, in special family pension, family members will get pension.

In case of death or ineligibility of the spouse, the family members will get pension up to 25 years. If the son or daughter of the pensioner becomes disabled, this pension will be for life. Penalty will be imposed on the employees who take retirement voluntarily.
