Punjab governor signs Saaf Pani Authority Act 2024

LAHORE : Punjab Governor Sardar Saleem Haider Khan signed the Saaf Pani Authority Act 2024, Code of Criminal Procedure (Punjab Amendment) Act 2024 and Punjab Enforcement and Regulation Act 2024. These three acts will come into effect immediately after the approval of governor.

On the commencement of Saaf Pani Authority Act 2024, the Punjab Aab-e-Pak Authority established under the Punjab Aab-e-Pak Authority Act 2019 shall stand reconstituted as Punjab Saaf Pani Authority.

Meanwhile, a delegation of Federation of Pakistan Chamber of Commerce and Industry Women Empowerment and Development Committee led by Convener Maryam Qasim Khan met with governor here at Governor’s House. Various proposals for fostering women empowerment, including establishment of Special Economic Zones were discussed.

Speaking on the occasion, Saleem Haider said that women are an important part of the society. He said that Shaheed Benazir Bhutto was an example of courage for women.

He said that the Pakistan People's Party believes in empowering women.

He said that no society can develop without ensuring the participation of women in various spheres of life and it is commendable that Pakistani women are actively participating in various fields, he added.

Sardar Saleem said successful women entrepreneurs are inspiration for other women, adding that financial independence is necessary for empowering women. He further said that the Pakistan People's Party has the credit of introducing Benazir Income Support Programme, the biggest social security programme of Pakistan for the deserving women.

Governor assured the delegation of resolving their issues. He added that the issues that fall within the scope of the Punjab government would be sent with strong recommendation. The delegation comprised of Nida Jafri, Ayesha Noorani, Shahina Cheema, Alia Manoor Khan, Mashaqat Amir, Shakeela Bano, Anam Mir, Sahrish Waqas. , Shamaila, Ayesha Aman, Toqeer Fatima and other women.

Sana Umair, the founder of Naqash, an organisation working for women's rights, and Ahsan Shah were also present on the occasion.

Uplift schemes approved: The Provincial Development Working Party (PDWP) approves three development schemes worth more than Rs11 billion.

These schemes were approved in the 38th meeting of the PDWP for the fiscal year 2024-25. Acting Chairman of Planning and Development (P&D) Board, Dr Asif Tufail, presided over the meeting.

The approved schemes included Smart Safe Cities Project: Phase I (Revised) at a cost of Rs5.180 billion, Rehabilitation/Improvement of Pall Chowk to Uchali Road, District Khushab at a cost of Rs3.095 billion and rehabilitation of dual road from Sargodha to Makhdoom Interchange (M2) (Right Carriage Way, District Sargodha) (Revised) at a cost of Rs2.960 billion.

The meeting was attended by Chief Economist Masood Anwar, members of the P&D Board, and other senior officials.
