MANSEHRA: The president of Village and Neighbourhood Council Ittehad, Malik Muhammad Mumtaz, on Friday said that the provincial government should honour its commitments to local government representatives without any further delay.
“Over three years had passed for elections of local governments in the province but we are still without funds and rights enshrined in the LG Act 2013,” he told reporters here.Flanked by Ittehad’s other office-bearers, he said that Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur had announced the release of funds to village and neighbourhood councils in Peshawar earlier this year but to no avail.
“We are still without funds and our rights and would stage sit-in in front of the provincial assembly if Gandapur doesn’t honour his commitments,” Mumtaz said.
He added that the provincial government led by Gandapur was spending government resources in its protests at the federal capital but didn’t give rights and funds to local government representatives.
“Our provincial leadership is in a consultative process to resume street agitation if Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur doesn’t honour his commitments with village and neighbourhood councils’ mayors and chairmen,” Mumtaz said.
