FDE schools to open today
Islamabad: The Federal Directorate of Education has declared today (Saturday) a working day for all public sector model schools and colleges in Islamabad’s urban and rural areas.
The move is meant to address the academic disruption caused by the suspension of classes during the recent Shanghai Cooperation Organisation summit and will ensure students complete their syllabus on time, according to an official.
He said schools overseen by the FDE would hold make-up classes on Saturday to offset the interruptions caused by the SCO summit. Normally, the FDE’s schools and colleges are closed on Saturdays and Sundays.
Islamabad hosted a meeting of the Council of the Heads of Government of the SCO Member States from October 15 to October 16 amid a three-day public holiday, schools and businesses closed and large contingents of police and paramilitary forces deployed. While public schools remained closed for in-person learning for three days, most private educational institutions in the city held online classes to prevent learning losses for students.
