It seems our leaders and elites are more concerned with amending the constitution than actually living up to its values and principles and protecting the rights it enshrines. If this were not the case, our leaders would pay more attention to certain problems. This includes the lack of any uniform EOBI registration among our workforce, depriving around 95 per cent of our workers of the security of even a modest pension. Article 25A of the constitution provides for free and compulsory education for all children aged five to 16 years as a fundamental right. Currently, around 26 million children are out of school. These are the issues our leaders ought to spend time debating instead of the machinations they are currently engaged in.
