ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court on Thursday dismissed as withdrawn the petition challenging the 26th proposed constitutional amendment.

A three-member bench of the apex court, headed by Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa and comprising Justice Naeem Akhtar Afghan and Justice Shahid Bilal Hassan, heard the petition filed by Abid Shahid Zubairi, former President Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA), challenging the 26th proposed constitutional amendment.

During the hearing, Hamid Khan, counsel for Abid Shahid Zubairi, appeared before the court and submitted that they wanted to withdraw the instant petition. Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa asked Hamid Khan if the petitioners had only hired him to withdraw the petition.

The Chief Justice observed that Abid Shahid Zubairi, along with other lawyers, had filed the petition and they could have appeared before the court to withdraw it. The CJP went on to ask Hamid Khan if they were going to withdraw their plea filed against the objections raised by the Registrar or the main petition. Hamid Khan replied that they wanted to withdraw both. Later, the court dismissed as withdrawn the petition, challenging the 26th proposed constitutional amendment.
