NOWSHERA: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur on Wednesday flayed the federal government for the plan to amend the Constitution, terming the move an attempt to suppress the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).

“A constitutional court is being set up above the Supreme Court of Pakistan to block the path of PTI. They are introducing a constitutional amendment. Nothing has been achieved after the use of force against us and putting our workers in jails,” he said.

Gandapur was talking to the media in the Jalozai town of Nowshera district after inaugurating the low-cost housing scheme (residential apartments) under the Naya Pakistan Housing Programme.

This housing scheme, covering an area of 150 kanals, has been built at an estimated cost of Rs3.3 billion. The scheme would have a total of 1,320 apartments, each with a covered area of 780 square feet. The chief minister handed the keys of 116 residential flats to owners.

The chief minister said PTI was the most popular party of the country but lamented that propaganda had been launched against the party and even he was not spared. “PTI is united under the leadership of party founder Imran Khan. There is no rift in PTI and the media is creating misunderstanding in this regard,” he insisted.

Earlier, talking of the low-cost housing scheme, the chief minister said it was announced by former prime minister Imran Khan. “I have honoured the promise made by my leader,” he added.

The scheme was designed for people with a monthly income of less than Rs50,000. It merits a mention here that the eligibility criteria (monthly income) is verified by Nadra and Naya Pakistan Housing Authority. In the first phase of the scheme, 116 apartments were allotted, whereas work on remaining apartments is in progress.

The chief minister also inaugurated a sports complex in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Housing Scheme, Jalozai, which has been completed at an estimated cost of Rs17 million. The central park covers a total area of 42 kanals, with 8 kanals allocated for sports facilities. Adviser to the Chief Minister on Housing, Dr. Amjad Ali, also addressed the ceremony.
