PHM opposes change of KP’s name

Sanaullah assured the delegation that he would raise the issue at a federal cabinet meeting

ISLAMABAD: The Province Hazara Movement (PHM) which also comprises some senior leaders of the PMLN has opposed the proposed change of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to Pakhtunkhwa.

A PHM delegation met Special Assistant to Prime Minister Rana Sanaullah here on Wednesday to convey the reservation over the change of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to Pakhtunkhwa as proposed by the Awami National Party (ANP) in their draft of constitutional amendments.

The delegation led by PHM Chairman and former federal minister Muhammad Yousaf (PMLN) comprised Senator Talha Mahmood and Professor Sajjad Qamar. Yousaf said the ANP proposal should not be made part of the constitutional amendments package.

They said the Hazara province had been a longstanding constitutional demand of the people of the Hazara region. Sanaullah assured the delegation that he would raise the issue at a federal cabinet meeting to be held on Thursday (today).

Earlier, a PHM meeting was held at the residence of Senator Talha Mahmood that decided to resist the change of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s name.

The meeting was attended by ex-MNA Dr Shaista Jadoon, ex-depuy speaker National Assembly Murtaza Javed Abbasi, ex-provincial minister Ejaz Durrani,

Member KP Assembly Shah Jahan Yousaf, Abdul Razzaq Abbasi of the Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) and others.
