IGP inspects prison van equipped with modern facilities

LAHORE:Inspector General of Police (IGP) Punjab Dr Usman Anwar Wednesday inspected a prison police van that was equipped with modern facilities.

On the occasion, Additional IG Logistics and Procurement Imran Mahmood briefed the IGP on the up-gradation of the prison vans. The IGP said all prison vans are being upgraded with modern technology to ensure the comfort and safety of prisoners. He said the latest GPS and tracking systems will be installed in the vans across the province. He directed preparation of a summary regarding the necessary funds for equipping the vans with modern facilities. DIG Telecommunications Imran Ahmar told the IGP about the strength of police prison vans and the resources required for their upgrade. He said a pilot project has been developed for upgrading prison vans used for transporting prisoners to court appearances, with plans to extend the upgrades to all vans in other districts of the province. AIG Development Sahibzada Bilal Umar, SSP MT Punjab Dr Anoosh Masood Chaudhry, AIG Logistics Syed Karar Hussain, and other officials were also present on the occasion.

Meanwhile, IGP ordered intensification of intelligence-based operations to eradicate organised crime across the province. Addressing a meeting at the Central Police Office, the IGP ordered a strict crackdown on absconders involved in serious crimes. He mentioned that effective investigation leading to substantial punishments for criminals is the key formula for crime control. He said the scope of intelligence-based operations should also be broadened to eradicate the menace of drugs. He directed RPOs and District Police Officers (DPOs) to personally supervise operations against evil elements and protect lives and property of people.
