Medics’ role in quality health service delivery highlighted

LAHORE:Health Adviser Dr Azhar Mehmood Kayani has said medical teachers and other stakeholders have a fundamental role in promoting medical education and improving the quality of service delivery in hospitals and they have this responsibility as their noble profession.

He added that to increase the dignity of this sacred profession of dedication and service to humanity, one should perform duties with full diligence and integrity. He expressed these views on the occasion of a review of various departments of Lahore General Hospital and Punjab Institute of Neurosciences. Principal Ameer Uddin Medical College, Prof Dr Al-Fareed Zafar, Executive Director Neuro Institute, Prof Muhammad Asif Bashir, MS Dr Frayad Hussain, MS PINS Dr Umar Ishaq and others were present on the occasion.

Later, the health adviser presided over the Academic Council Meeting in the Committee Room of Lahore General Hospital where Principal Prof Al-Fareed Zafar delivered briefing about the performance of all departments and said that more than one crore rupees are being spent annually on research in PGMI while patients are being treated through Laparoscopy in Gynecology, Surgery and other fields so that they do not have to stay in the hospital for a long time. Health Adviser Dr Azhar appreciated the efforts of Prof Al-Fareed Zafar on the use of modern technology Laparoscopy in Lahore General Hospital. He assured the participants of the meeting that he will recommend to Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz to increase the seats of Nursing College Lahore General Hospital from 200 to 300 so that more female can be accommodated and given this platform. Addressing the meeting, he said that within the available resources an integrated strategy for maximum utilisation and optimal usage is being implemented to solve the problems faced by the hospitals to ensure delivery of better medical facilities to the patients. He said that the mechanism of monitoring and auditing the referral system for transfer of patients from district hospitals to teaching hospitals has also been clarified so that no patient faces any problem in relation to treatment. He said that a large number of patients come to Lahore General Hospital every day and more recommendations will be made to the CM to create more facilities for them. Later, Prof Al-Fareed Zafar presented an honorary shield to Azhar Mehmood Kayani.
