Inter-varsity cricket tournament commences today

PESHAWAR: The inter-university cricket tournament under Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and Higher Education Commission (HEC) will commence today (Thursday). Director Sports Islamia College University Ali Hoti has been named as organizing secretary for the events taking place in Zone-B, said a press release issued here.

The universities of the provincial metropolis have been divided into two pools for the matches. Pool-A would consist of the Islamia College University, University of Agriculture Peshawar, University of Engineering and Technology (UET) Peshawar and the University of Peshawar, while Pool-B would have teams from Cecos University, City University and Iqra University.

According to Ali Hoti, the first match of the event would be played between Islamia College and UET today. The teams of the University of Peshawar and Agriculture University would have a contest tomorrow (Friday), while Islamia College will face University of Peshawar on October 19, he said.

University of Peshawar and UET would have a match on October 20, while the UET and University of Agriculture will play their match on October 21. Similarly, in the Pool-B, City University and Iqra University would play their match today at the ground of Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education, Peshawar today. Cecos University and City University play a match tomorrow, while Iqra and Cecos universities will compete against each other on October 19. The final match of the tournament will be played on October 22.

Masood Afridi, Jamshed Iqbal, Shehzad Ahmad Shah, Ghayyur Hussain, Mohammad Fayyaz, Irshad Iqbal, Fakhre Alam and Jaafar Hussain have been named as official umpires for the tournament. Ali Hoti said that the best arrangements have been made for the tournament and every effort would be made to make the event a big success.
