Drive to rehabilitate 2,000 drug addicts to begin next week

PESHAWAR: A campaign to rehabilitate 2,000 homeless drug addicts in Peshawar will be launched next week.Under the directives of Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur. Peshawar Division Commissioner Riaz Khan Mahsud announced that these individuals, currently living on the streets, would be taken into custody and transferred to rehabilitation centers as part of this initiative.

Speaking during a meeting with a delegation of local artistes, the commissioner emphasized the responsibility of every citizen in combating drug addiction.“It is essential for all members of the society to raise awareness about the dangers of drugs and to play their part in protecting those around them,” he said.

The official acknowledged the important role the artist community plays in raising awareness, stating, “Artists can significantly support the government’s efforts by influencing public opinion and spreading the message against drug abuse.”

The artists recently contributed to an awareness campaign by performing in a reformative drama centered on the harmful effects of drug addiction. This drama, staged at an event organized by the district administration of Charsadda, won appreciation on social media for its message.

Senior actress Sarwat Ali, comedian Uzair Sherpao, Iram Sahar, and Aftar Hussain were among the cast members who brought the narrative to life.In recognition of their efforts, the commissioner distributed cash prizes and certificates of appreciation to the actors.
