ISLAMABAD: Kamran Ghulam, who became the 13th Pakistan cricketer to score a century on the Test debut, rejected numerous offers to leave the country for good and start playing cricket abroad.

In a media talk following his thumping entry into the Test cricket arena, Kamran said he was lured time and again to play cricket abroad, which he resisted. “After failing to get a chance to play for the country, I was invited to play cricket abroad which I resisted. I knew my time would come and I will grab that with both hands.”

Kamran added that he had been in and out of the probables list during the last four years. “I never got disheartened for not making it to the playing XI after sitting as a reserve at the benches. The fact of the matter is that I continued working hard in domestic cricket.

My efforts span over 15 years in which I achieved all the targets. Yet, my chance to represent my country, which has been my dream and that came true here in Multan today.” Kamran replaced Babar in the team. “I knew I was replacing a legend on the team who has proved himself internationally. It was at the back of my mind not to let the opportunity go. It is a big honour to replace a legendary player in the playing XI.”

Kamran said that when he came to the crease Pakistan were two down at a very early stage. “My effort was not to get under pressure. I wanted to stay cool, play my normal game and develop a stand with Saim in which I succeeded.”

He thanked all those who helped and guided him to reach this position. “From the Under-19 level to this position, my coaches and well-wishers supported me. I am thankful to all my friends and coaches for their support.” The ton-up player was confident to continue in the same vein in the future. “My efforts would be to give my best when it comes to contributing to the team’s cause.”
