ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Standard and Quality Control Authority (PSQCA) is taking vigorous steps to make Pakistani products conform to global requirements and to ensure the health of consumers.
It is working to ensure the supply of 179 compulsory items, including food, building materials, electronics, automobiles, cosmetics, tires, motorcycles, CEG rickshaws and internal compression lubrication engine oil, as per required standards. According to PSQCA officials, they have developed more than 6,000 standards themselves, some standards have also been adapted, while in various fields, such as food safety, energy saving and environmental protection, more than 24,000 standards have been adhered to. In doing so, the PSQCA is contributing to the achievement of the 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda.
The PSQCA’s mandate is to enhance Pakistan’s export potential and play a key role in ensuring consumer safety, harmonizing food standards, developing vehicle safety regulations and establishing strict standards for halal products. It not only protects the health and safety of consumers but also strengthens the competitiveness of Pakistan products in global markets. It is also responsible for developing standards for halal products as per the principles of SMIIC, the Standards and Measurement Organization of Islamic Countries.
