ISLAMABAD: Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Vice President and Parliamentary leader in the Senate Senator Sherry Rehman briefed delegation from Free and Fair Election Network (Fafen) on the draft concerning the establishment of a Federal and Provincial Constitutional Courts.
In principle, the Fafen representatives said that they agreed with the PPP on the creation of a constitutional court. Senator Sherry Rehman said as part of the PPP’s initiative to enlarge the debate on the creation of a constitutional court and judicial reform, it was good to meet with Fafen representatives. “Shared the draft with the Fafen that PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari had also invited inputs on in a robust search for transparency and inclusion,” she said. She appreciated that National Coordinator Rashid Chaudhry and the Fafen team agreed in principle to PPP proposal for a constitutional court and said that they exchanged views on a number of important issues related to broader reform agendas.” She further stated that the purpose of these meetings is to take all the stakeholders into confidence regarding the establishment of the constitutional courts. “We want the 26th constitutional amendment to be as transparent and consensual as the 18th Amendment was,” said Senator Sherry Rehman. The Fafen delegation also presented their other recommendations related to broader reform initiatives to Senator Sherry Rehman. The Fafen delegation included National Coordinator Rashid Chaudhry, Salahuddin, and Jublee Bano.
