Workers protest Pesco privatization plan
KOHAT: The Peshawar Electric Supply Company (Pesco) on Sunday staged a protest on the Old Peshawar Road to oppose the planned privatization of the power distribution entity.
Chairman of the Wapda Hydro Electric Workers Union, Daud Khan and Younas Shah led the protest. The power workers locked down the divisional office of the Pesco to register anger at the government policies. The speakers accused the federal government of exploiting the power workers and cited the recruitment without pension benefits in this regard.
They asked the government to address the issue of shortage of workers by making recruitment without any day. The speakers said that the staff shortage was affecting service delivery and hence the issue should be addressed on an urgent basis.
