Karachi Commissioner Syed Hassan Naqvi on Saturday visited Sabzi Mandi, and chaired a meeting at the Market Committee office to review the system for setting fruit and vegetable prices.

District East Deputy Commissioner Shehzad Fazal Abbasi briefed the commissioner on the Market Committee’s operations, highlighting the price fixation system and the importance of the auction process.

Market Committee Chairman Ali Zeman informed the meeting about issues related to the management of the committee’s affairs. Commissioner Naqvi stressed the need to improve the auction system and ensure transparency in it, emphasising strict adherence to auction rules.

District Central Additional DC Sara Khan, who was tasked with monitoring the auction process and the price fixation system at Sabzi Mandi, provided a detailed briefing to the commissioner. She pointed out that many traders’ trucks wait outside the market until the auction is completed, which affects the process.

The meeting concluded that traders must participate in auctions at designated times, and that the Market Committee would take legal action against non-compliant traders. The commissioner urged all stakeholders to work together in close coordination and cooperation. It was also decided that the Gulzar-e-Hijri assistant commissioner would oversee the auction process.

The meeting was also attended by assistant commissioners Rabia Syed and Ali Anwer Panhwar, as well as officials from the Bureau of Supply among other officials.
