PESHAWAR: The Peshawar High Court (PHC) on Saturday issued notices to the federal and provincial governments as well as the administration of Central Prison Peshawar on a habeas corruption petition.
A two-member PHC bench comprising Chief Justice Ishtiaq Ibrahim and Justice Wiqar Ahmad heard the petition filed by the wife of a missing person.
During the hearing, Tafseel Khan Afridi appearing for the petitioner informed the court that her husband, Lal Zar, was taken into custody on July 19, 2017.
He said his family learned in 2021 that he was being held at the Central Prison Peshawar. However, when the family contacted the jail authorities, the administration denied having any knowledge of his whereabouts.
Afridi said the family later came to know that Lal Zar had been sentenced to death by a military court in 2021. The lawyer requested the court on behalf of the petitioner to direct the respondents to arrange her meeting with her husband.
After hearing the arguments, the court sought responses from the federal and provincial governments, as well as the Central Prison Peshawar administration about the case.
