The N9 Motorway, which connects Karachi with other parts of the country, faces several problems. Heavy monsoon rains have severely damaged portions of the highway near Karachi. It also experiences heavy traffic, particularly due to the heavily loaded cargo trucks coming to and from Karachi port. This combination of high traffic volumes and poor road conditions exacerbates delays and causes accidents. Driving in the wrong direction has become a norm, particularly near fruit and vegetable markets. Due to inadequate signs and fencing, traffic is often seen moving in both directions on exits and entries. Pedestrians also do not hesitate to cross the road, trying to dodge fast moving vehicles and putting their lives and the lives of others at risk.
These factors contribute to significant transportation challenges on this important motorway. The concerned authorities are requested to address these issues through better maintenance, strict enforcement of traffic laws, provision of traffic signs and fences on both sides of the highway. Additional overhead pedestrian bridges would also help make this important motorway safer for all users.
