NOWSHERA: The death toll from the dengue outbreak in the Nowshera district has risen to four, as a gardener of the cantonment board on Friday breathed his last at a hospital due to complications linked with the vector-borne disease.
However, hospital officials said, his death may not have been directly caused by dengue. Despite this uncertainty, the outbreak continued to grip the district, where many patients have received treatment at homes and hospitals, including the Qazi Hussain Ahmad Medical Complex (QHAMC).
According to a hospital spokesperson, the deceased gardener, identified as Zubair, had dengue symptoms, but doctors ruled out dengue as the direct cause of death. His medical samples have been sent to a forensic laboratory for further investigation.
The dengue outbreak in Nowshera Kalan, Nowshera Cantt, Hakimabad, and surrounding areas has become more severe, exacerbated by poor sanitation and stagnant water, which has led to a rapid increase in the mosquito population.
Dr Mujtaba Ali, Medical Superintendent of the District Headquarters (DHQ) Hospital, and Dr Kamran Hakim Khan, Hospital Director at QHAMC, reported that hundreds of suspected dengue patients were treated in recent weeks. Over 200 patients were admitted to hospitals across Nowsher.
