Sindh police chief Ghulam Nabi Memon on Thursday presided over a meeting on security measures for Chinese nationals working in Sindh, and directed that a committee be formed under the chairmanship of the additional IG operations to improve security for them.
The meeting, which was held at the Central Police Office, discussed the movement of Chinese citizens, experts and staff engaged in CPEC and non-CPEC projects in Sindh, and security measures in this regard were reviewed in detail and necessary instructions were given.
The additional IGs and the SPU DIG SPU briefed the meeting and said that in view of the current situation, unnecessary movement of Chinese citizens had been restricted while security measures had been upgraded.
IGP Memon directed that a committee comprising the DIGs of the SPUs, Karachi, Admin, Establishment, East, Headquarters and the SSP CTD should be formed under the chairmanship of the Additional IG Operations to improve the security measures for Chinese citizens.
He said action should be initiated against vehicles using tinted glass, fake number plates and police lights at the provincial level without any discrimination and all possible steps should be taken to make this campaign very effective and successful in collaboration with the area police, traffic police and AVLC.
He said all officers should not only give security briefings to their staff on measures such as the safety of foreigners, especially Chinese nationals, but also keep them alert.
The additional IGs of Karachi, CTD, and operations, the DIGs of Establishment, Headquarters, IT, and SPU, the Karachi Range DIGs, and other officers attended the meeting in person while the DIGs of all other divisions, including the DIGs of Security and Emergency Division, participated through video link.
Meanwhile, Sindh Governor Kamran Khan Tessori commended the police for ensuring foolproof Security for Dr Zakir Naik.
He met IGP Memon at the Governor House. The meeting was also attended by renowned scholar Dr Zakir Naik, Mufti Abdul Rahim, and Additional IG Javed Alam Odho.
Tessori praised the IGP, the additional IG and other officers and personnel for their efforts to ensure foolproof security for Dr Zakir Naik, a distinguished scholar and a state guest.
He acknowledged the hard work of the Sindh police, who worked tirelessly to provide robust security arrangements. Dr Zakir Naik also expressed his gratitude to the Sindh police for their exceptional security efforts.
