PESHAWAR: The experts and medical professionals shed light on the importance of mental health at a ceremony to mark the World Mental Health Day.The Peshawar General Hospital had organized the event in connection with the World Mental Health Day.

CEO of the hospital, Prof Dr. Malik Javed Iqbal, Dr. Samina Khattak, doctors from various departments and medical students specializing in psychology attended the event.Addressing the audience, CEO Dr. Malik Javed Iqbal emphasized the crucial role of mental health in overall physical well-being, stating that a healthy mind is fundamental to a healthy body. He underscored the significance of celebrating World Mental Health Day globally to raise awareness about mental health needs, the impact of mental illness, and preventive measures.

Expressing concern over the rising number of mental health cases in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and worldwide, Dr. Samina Khattak highlighted that mental stress not only leads to various mental disorders but also increases susceptibility to substance abuse and suicidal tendencies. She urged individuals to prioritize mental well-being for a fulfilling and healthy life.

In conjunction with the ceremony, a free medical camp was organized at Peshawar General Hospital, Hayatabad, offering diagnostic services to the public. The initiative aimed to provide accessible healthcare and promote awareness about mental health issues among the community.

The speakers concluded by stressing the necessity of ongoing awareness campaigns to address the growing challenges of mental health globally and in Pakistan, urging collective efforts towards mental health education and support.
