Army win National Weightlifting Championship

LAHORE: The 66th National Men’s Weightlifting Championship, organised by the Pakistan Weightlifting Federation, concluded with the Army team emerging victorious with 98 points at the Burt Institute Banquet Hall.

WAPDA secured second place with 89 points, and Punjab took third place with 74 points. The championship saw participation from 75 male lifters and 61 female lifters from ten affiliated units of the Federation.

In the 61kg category, Muhammad Yousaf from HEC set a national record with a 148kg jerk. In the 89kg category, Furqan Anwar from WAPDA set a national record with a 146kg snatch.

In 89kg Class, Furqan Anwar (WAPDA) took first place with a total of 312kg, Azan Ali Butt (Army) second with 307kg, and Haider Ali (WAPDA) third with 296kg. In 96kg Class, Hammad (Punjab) won with a total of 299kg, Noor Mustafa (HEC) was second with 297kg, and Hammad Ali (Army) third with 295kg.

In 102kg Class, Muhammad Hamza (Army) took first place with a total of 303kg. Arslan Rauf (WAPDA) was second with 300kg, and Khurram Ali (Railways) third with 281kg. In 109kg Class, Usman Ghani (Army) won with a total of 310kg, Muhammad Iqbal (Balochistan) was second with 307kg, and Usama Butt (HEC) third with 300kg.

In Above 109kg Class, Abdullah Idrees Butt (WAPDA) took first place with a total of 340kg, Anas Javed (WAPDA) was second with 296kg, and Muhammad Yahya (Punjab) third with 291kg. The sixth National Women’s Weightlifting Championship will take place at Burt Institute Banquet Hall, Garhi Shahu, on Friday and Saturday from 11 AM to 4 PM.
