KARACHI Nooh Butt of Pakistan achieved an impressive victory in his first-ever powerlifting competition, claiming the title of Commonwealth Champion in the 120-kilogram category at the Commonwealth Powerlifting Championship being held in South Africa.

Butt delivered a remarkable performance, winning three gold medals and one bronze in this inaugural event. He lifted a total of 860 kilograms in the open category, which earned him the championship title.

Butt’s standout achievements included a gold medal in the squat, where he lifted 370 kilograms, and another gold in the bench press with a lift of 210 kilograms. He also secured a bronze medal in the deadlift category by lifting 280 kilograms.

This maiden appearance in powerlifting marks a significant turning point for Butt, who previously earned multiple medals in weightlifting. After parting ways with the Pakistan Weightlifting Federation, he transitioned to powerlifting, quickly making a name for himself.
