A special convocation ceremony of the University of Karachi was held at the Governor House on Wednesday evening to award the KU’s honorary doctorate degree (honoris causa) to globally renowned Islamic scholar Dr Zakir Naik.
The ceremony was attended by the consul generals of different countries, the chairman of the Sindh Higher Education Commission, Dr Tariq Rafi, KU Vice-Chancellor Dr Khalid Iraqi, Mufi Abdul Rahim, deans of faculties, and senior faculty members.
Speaking on the occasion, Sindh Governor Kamran Khan Tessori, who is also the KU chancellor, greeted the visiting Islamic scholar on the award of the honorary doctorate degree. Tessori said Dr Naik, who has been accorded the status of a state guest during his visit to Pakistan, was awarded the doctorate degree in recognition of his services for the religion of Islam.
He told the audience that Dr Naik had delivered thousands of lectures all over the world to spread the message of Islam and had been very popular in the Muslim world. The governor said Dr Naik had successfully participated in several debates on different topics of Islam. He hoped that Dr Naik would continue with his mission to preach Islam with his fullest dedication and commitment.
