JI leader slams police action against protesters
PESHAWAR: Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) provincial head Prof Mohammad Ibrahim Khan has condemned the police action against peaceful protesters in Khyber tribal district, which according to him, would exacerbate the situation further.
Resorting to firing on non-combatant and unarmed people is the worst type of terrorism, he said.In a statement, he said that the provincial government should talk sense and take urgent steps for averting the fall out of the “irresponsible and brutal act.”
He said that the government through such unwanted acts was trying to push the province to another quagmire. Using force against protestors was detrimental for the province and its people, he added.
He further said that the government was still having time to review its attitude and demonstrate maturity to settle down the matter in a peaceful manner. He said that three people were killed and over 15 injured in the indiscriminate firing of police on sleeping protesters.
The gathering was meant for restoration of peace, he said, adding the provincial government was destroying the law and order situation. He expressed deep concern over the casualties and expressed sympathies with the bereaved families. He also urged the government to announce compensation packages for the bereaved families.
