A special meeting of the University of Karachi (KU) syndicate on Tuesday approved the conferment of honorary doctorate on Malaysia-based Islamic scholar Dr Zakir Abdul Karim Naik who has been on a visit to Pakistan.
Officials said the special syndicate meeting was called after the varsity received a letter from Sindh Governor Kamran Khan Tessori. The governor, who is the chancellor of the public sector universities in Sindh, had recommended the KU to award an honorary PhD degree to Dr Naik.
The syndicate met at the KU Secretariat with Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Khalid Mahmood Iraqi in the chair.
Prayers were also offered for the departed souls of the mother of the KU syndicate member MNA Shahida Rehmani, and Dr Anwar Naseem, former governing body member of Dr AQ Khan Institute of Biotechnology.
