Two minor brothers lost their lives, while their younger brother and a cousin were severely injured, when they were crushed by a water tanker within the limits of the Model Colony police station in the early hours of
Tuesday.
The casualties were taken to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre. The deceased brothers were identified as Taha Rafaqat Ali, 10, and Muhammad Shah, 9. The seriously injured younger brother has been identified as Babar, 8, while the fourth injured person is Ibrahim Sajawal, 25.
According to the witnesses, the victims were riding a motorbike when they were crushed under the wheels of the water tanker. The driver responsible was later arrested. He was identified as Nazir.
Police said they found photocopies of the driving licence and the CNIC, but the driver was unable to provide the originals, while the police were checking with the relevant department to verify if the driver was using a fake driving licence.
The bodies of the two minor brothers were sent to their home town in Mansehra. Before sending their bodies to their home town, their family members and relatives held a protest against the incident, stating that this had become a routine matter in which tankers hit and killed innocent citizens.
They also criticised the traffic police for allowing such drivers to continue to ply their vehicles on the roads who did not even have proper documentation.
