PESHAWAR: Member National Assembly (MNA) and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Shandana Gulzar on Tuesday said they would not vote for the amendments under any circumstances
Speaking at a press conference at the Peshawar Press Club, she said that what had been happening in the country since October 4 was unprecedented. She said attempts were being made to amend the constitution in the dark of night, and when resistance arose, their workers were shelled from helicopters.
She said that even a seasoned politician like Maulana Fazlur Rehman opposed the amendments. She added that she faced new legal cases daily, including being charged with terrorism in Punjab although she did not go beyond Swabi on October 4.
Shandana Gulzar further stated that any civilian in the country could now be tried in a military court. “Judges are waiting for constitutional amendments to extend their tenure,” she claimed. She criticized that assembly members’ homes were being visited to seek votes in favour of the amendments.
She added that they would not vote for the amendments under any circumstances, even if they were forcibly taken away for it. They had asked for permission to protest but were strictly denied, she added.
