LAHORE: England debutant Brydon Carse expressed pride after claiming his first two Test wickets in challenging conditions during Pakistan’s first innings in the Multan Test.
The fast bowler, who endured two long days in the field, reflected on the difficulties but found satisfaction in his efforts. Carse struck twice late in Pakistan’s innings, dismissing night-watchman Naseem Shah and Aamer Jamal. His performance came after a tough introduction on day one, where an lbw decision against Shan Masood was overturned on review.
Carse said it was a rewarding experience. “It’s been hard work, but I’ve thoroughly enjoyed the challenge,” Carse told reporters during a press conference. “The heat and the wicket made it tough, but the group kept pushing, and it was nice for me to pick up a couple [of wickets].”
Carse’s dismissal of Naseem, who was caught at leg slip by Harry Brook, came after Pope urged him to continue his spell. “Popey asked me if I wanted one more over, and I felt like I was close to a breakthrough. When the wicket came, it was a special feeling, though the celebrations were probably a bit muted,” Carse admitted.
Carse emphasised the positive mood in the England camp. “The lads are in good spirits. It’s been tough, but we’re ready to fight back. Zak [Crawley] gave us a good start with 64 not out, and if we keep batting positively, we can put their attack under pressure.”
