LAHORE: The highly anticipated 66th Men’s Weightlifting Championship and 6th National Women Weightlifting Championship commenced here on Tuesday at the Burt Institute Hall.
A total of 75 male weightlifters and 61 female weightlifters affiliated with the Pakistan Weightlifting Federation are participating in this event. Weightlifters from Wapda, Army, Police, Railways, Higher Education Commission and all four provinces are competing in the event.
On the first day of the championship, several weightlifters showcased their exceptional strength and skills. In the 55-kg class Haider Salman from Army secured the first position with a total lift of 230kg. Subhan Ali from Punjab claimed the second spot with a total lift of 192kg while Muhammad Kamran from Pakistan Railways secured the third position with a total lift of 188kg.
In the 61kg class, Muhammad Yusuf from HEC emerged as the champion with a total lift of 258 kg. Muhammad Ali Ghani from the Pakistan Army secured the second position with a lift of 257 kg while Timur Khan from Punjab claimed the third position with a total lift of 239kg.
In the 67kg class Abu Bakar Ghani from the Pakistan Army secured the top position with a total lift of 263kg. Shujaat Kalim from Wapda claimed second position and Muhammad Shayan from Pakistan Railways secured the third position lifts of 233 kg.
